Needham, MA, April 2005

The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) Development Committee was created to serve an advisory and leadership role on all matters regarding the medical center’s fundraising.  In 2005, the Development Committee underwent a restructuring that resulted in the creation of the Planned Giving Sub-Committee.  Jay Fialkow, BIDMC board member, and Managing Partner of RossFialkow Capital Partners LLP, was appointed in January as Chairman of the Planned Giving Committee. Planned Giving is specially designed to help donors meet both their financial and family obligations while simultaneously fulfilling their wish to further the mission of BIDMC. These gifts can give donors lifetime income and tax advantages. At the same time, it can be a simple and affordable way for individuals to leave a lasting legacy at the medical center.

The Planned Giving Committee was formed to assist the board and staff of the Medical Center to provide guidance and support to Director of Planned Giving on financial, legal, and other matters related to planned giving.  In particular, the committee will assist in serving as ambassadors of the Medical Center by promoting gift planning awareness in the community.  “We’re very excited to have Jay on board to help us with this very important effort,” said Greta M. Morgan, Director, Planned Giving in the Office of Development at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

In concert with the planned giving officer and other Medical Center staff, Mr. Fialkow, as the committee chair, will work on establishing the annual and long term goals of the committee.  “I am honored and pleased to be serving as chair of this important and necessary committee,” said Jay Fialkow.  “I believe that the commitment that Beth Israel Deaconess has made to the community can and should be matched with a corresponding commitment from the community itself.  It is my goal that this new committee will advance that effort.”  To that end, he will serve as the committee’s liaison to the Development Committee and other leadership groups of the Medical Center, as well as recruiting members for the committee to maintain it at its full compliment of ten members. There has never been a better time to celebrate the strengths of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Among these is its unwavering dedication to reach beyond the medical center's walls and work with community partners to deliver high-quality care, reduce racial and ethnic disparities and improve the overall health of underserved populations. The strength of these principles is at the heart of what BIDMC does and is embodied in the souls of the staff who do it.
